In an effort to more closely connect UVa to the Silicon Valley, Prof. Ryan Wright leds a for-credit (1.5) class that visits technology companies in the Bay Area during Spring Break.
The primary focus of the “Digital Safari” course (COMM 4251) will be comparing and contrasting the business models of technology firms in Silicon Valley. To this end, a group of students, including current McIntire Comm, engineering, and pre-Comm students, will participate in project work and visit companies in a variety of technology-based industries.
In addition to experiencing a first-hand look at the worldwide center for high-tech innovation and development, students will be asked to analyze the business models of each firm they visit, and provide strategic recommendations going forward. The class will also have a heavy dose of design thinking – both in concept and in application.
